Learn More About Our Author Services

Prices

Welcome to the home of the Friendly Editor. I hope I can help authors and small publishers present high quality work to the public. This page presents a general suggested outline of my services and prices. I hope you will contact me with your request, and we can work out a schedule and final price.

Note: I generally charge by the document page. I assume that an average page is 300 - 500 words. A children's book may contain a lot less words per page, while some scholarly documents may contain much more. That is why I need you to contact me so I can see a sample. Simply click the link to my Facebook page and leave a message. We can work out the details and make payment arrangements. I may discount bulk orders or charge more for very in-depth work.

I accept MS Word documents. If you need to send me another format, let me know and I might be able to work it out.

These prices do not include formatting for uploads to online publishing services. These vary quite a bit.

Basic Proofreading: This includes my famous eagle-eyed and detailed check for misspellings, grammar errors, repeated words (and and), possible "wrong word" usage, and other "oopsies". This is a good service to use if you have already gone over your book for errors, or if you have used "beta" readers or another proof-reader.

I prefer to make the changes within my documents so you can compare them to your draft version. If you would like me to work in another way, please let me know.

Price: $2 A page For example, proofreading a basic 100 page short novel would cost $200.

Editing And Proofreading: This service includes basic proofreading. It also includes checking deeper for awkward sentences, paragraph structure, and more. This would be a better service to use if I am the only person, besides you, who is working on your book.

Price: $3 A page For example, editing and proofreading a basic 100 page short novel would cost $300.

Blurb and Description Writing: If you order another service, why not let me help you write your book description? I have had authors tell me that they liked my descriptions better than their own! Of course, the price will be higher if you do not order another service because I will have to read your entire book.

Price: $15

  1. I have gotten two more 5 star reviews since I uploaded the edited revision you provided. Thanks!

  2. You have used the word, "less," incorrectly. Less is used for something that cannot be counted--fluids, for example. Fewer is used for things that can be counted--words, in this case.

  3. Thank you for pointing it out. I'm aware of the correct usage. (Someone else actually wrote that part of the blog.) I'll change it right away.

  4. Not trying to be a dick. But in your google+ account you spelled library science as "Libray Sicence". I'm far from a grammar nazi. But your selling yourself as an editor here...

And that 'less' correction comment, even if someone else did write it. You missed it until someone pointed it out.

Again, not trying to troll or anything. It's just if you're going to have a site to put yourself out there as an editor. It had better be flawless.
